Proud to Be Runner-Up for Custom Home Builder of the Year For a Second Time

Our team had a wonderful time at the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas organized each year by the National Association of Home Builders. We walk around to check out new products by our top vendor partners, and learn about the latest installation techniques and top-of-the-line materials that enable us to build even better homes that make our clients’ lives easier or more enjoyable.

At the awards banquet dinner, we were excited to hear that our friends and peers at Hendel Homes were named Custom Home Builder of the Year. We’ve become close friends with founders and co-owners Rick and Amy over the years, and we always enjoy spending time with them and sharing our thoughts and ideas for improving our businesses.

While we didn’t take home the top prize ourselves, we are very proud of our entire team at Loudermilk Homes and our sister company Loudermilk Designs — their hard work and dedication are to thank for our showing as a finalist for Custom Home Builder of the Year by NAHB.

Being named a runner-up for the award for the second time is a big deal to our company. The national award recognizes the contributions and leadership of the top builders in the nation, and it’s very competitive with dozens of builders applying each year.

The winners are chosen by a panel of leading custom home builders who won themselves in previous years, which makes the accolade and the recognition even more meaningful to us because the finalists are chosen by the very people whose successful footsteps we follow and hope to emulate.

Our Founder & President Sherwin Loudermilk was nominated for the Custom Home Builder of the Year award in part because of his service to the local building profession and to the community.

Loudermilk serves as President of the Inner Atlanta chapter of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, and he serves on the Board of Advisors for the Georgia Tech College of Design and the Georgia Tech School of Building Construction. He’s also an official mentor for the MBA program at Georgia State University.

For several years, he has been an active leader and participant in an NAHB Builder 20 peer learning group of leading builders across the country called “The Doors” and he previously served as chairman of the group. During regular meetings and informal conversations throughout the year, they share ideas and best practices, provide constructive feedback, review each other’s financials and operations, and challenge each other to improve.

Loudermilk Homes is also deeply involved in supporting the local communities where it operates. The company is an active member of the Atlanta CBUSA chapter and the Chamber of Commerce in Cashiers, NC, and gives to Noor charity to support refugees displaced by geopolitical unrest so they can rebuild their lives. As part of its “Employee of the Quarter” recognition program, Loudermilk Homes makes a donation to a charity of the employee’s choice, and recent recipients include Northside Hospital Foundation, Atlanta Humane Society, Glenville-Cashiers Rescue Squad, and the American Red Cross.

“Everyone at Loudermilk Homes and Loudermilk Designs contributes to our success as we design and build each home as if it were our own,” Loudermilk said. “We are so proud to be recognized as a finalist for Custom Home Builder of the Year for a second time.”
