We spend twice as much on our foundation waterproofing systems compared to what most builders spend, and it’s worth every penny.

We use the TUFF-N-DRI H8 two-step waterproofing system made by Tremco Barrier Solutions, which begins with a polymer-enhanced asphalt liquid applied barrier that creates a seamless waterproof seal that can withstand up to eight feet of water under hydrostatic pressure. It’s specially designed to seal off any cracks caused by settling or other normal conditions to prevent leaks from occurring. 

The second part of the TUFF-N-DRI system is a barrier board that goes on the outside to protect and enhance the functionality of the seamless membrane underneath. The boards are durable and lightweight, and also provide beneficial insulation.

TUFF-N-DRI is more expensive and takes extra time and labor to install than regular waterproofing systems, but it provides a superior water barrier and protects the foundation of the home. We think that’s a great long-term investment, and the right thing to do.

Most homebuilders cut costs by scrimping on unseen things like waterproofing and don’t give it a second thought. Those decisions can come back to haunt a homeowner after the first period of prolonged rainfall.
